JAIIB Indian Economy & Indian Financial System: Syllabus, Units and Free MCQs (2026)
By Swarnakshi Jha (ex-banker) · Updated 20 September 2026
Indian Economy & Indian Financial System (IE&IFS) is the first paper of the cycle and the most current-affairs-sensitive — economic architecture, monetary and fiscal policy, financial institutions, markets and products. Below is the complete unit map of the IIBF syllabus, and for every unit a free page with the key facts, five solved questions and the traps — drawn from the 3,032 questions on this paper in our Mock Centre.

Not sure how ready you are for IE&IFS?Take the free 10-question test (real exam interface, instant explanations) — if IE&IFS is your weak paper it recommends the single-subject pass instead of the full bundle.
Read the unit, then test it the same day. Each unit page above ends in five questions; the demo and the Mock Centre continue with the rest. A unit counts as "done" only when your accuracy on it holds up a week later — that is what Smart Revision checks.
Mock first from September. One IE&IFS mock a week in exam-simulation mode, then review every wrong answer against the unit it came from. Time pressure is the thing books cannot teach.
Keep one sheet of drift-prone figures. 4 units in this paper carry rule changes since the textbook; each unit page shows the textbook figure and the current one side by side. Re-read the sheet the morning of 1 November 2026.
Use the calendar. IE&IFS opens the cycle on 1 November — three clear weeks before the next paper, so finish it first and do not let PPB reading bleed into October.
Unit 17 — Monetary Policy and Fiscal Policy: The 4.5% is the textbook's illustrative rate. The actual CRR is 3.00% (since 29 November 2025) — at 3% the answer would be ₹3,000. Always compute with…
Unit 26 — Insurance Companies: Current law: IRDAI cut the obligatory cession to GIC Re to 4% from FY 2022-23 and has kept it there since. 'Per the textbook' → 5%; 'currently' → 4%.
Unit 33 — Foreign Exchange Markets: BIS triennial surveys since the textbook: about USD 7.5 trillion a day (April 2022) and roughly USD 9.6 trillion (April 2025); USD 6.6 trillion is the…

When is the JAIIB IE&IFS paper in the November 2026 cycle?
Indian Economy & Indian Financial System is Paper 1 of the November 2026 cycle, on 1 November 2026 (IIBF's published date). Like every JAIIB paper it is online, about 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks in 2 hours, with no negative marking. The passing mark is 50 in the subject (or 45 with a 50% aggregate across all four papers in one attempt).
Which IE&IFS units have changed because of new law or RBI rules?
Since the textbook was printed, rules behind questions in 4 units have changed; on those unit pages the affected questions carry a "Law update, September 2026" line giving both the textbook answer and the current position (e.g. Unit 14 — Money Supply and Inflation; Unit 17 — Monetary Policy and Fiscal Policy; Unit 26 — Insurance Companies). The exam still follows the textbook unless a question says "currently" — our unit pages show which is which.
